The Alabama State Data Center (ASDC) is one of the charter members of the national state data center program, begun in 1978 and housed at The University of Alabama since its inception. ASDC is a network of 28 public agencies working together through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Bureau of the Census to facilitate use and delivery of census and other data to the public. The Alabama Public Library Service and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) work as coordinating agencies. Twenty-five other affiliate agencies statewide assist in providing demographic and economic data to Alabama citizens and businesses. The Census Bureau provides support, supplies a range of data, and is a resource for additional expertise when needed.
For three decades the ASDC has provided valuable socioeconomic information for businesses, the media, grant writers, governments, students and teachers, potential entrepreneurs, and private citizens.
