PLEASE NOTE: Development of county-level retail trade data has been temporarily halted due to recently observed problems with categories and the current state of retail trade organizations and activities. For example, two previously separate categories, general merchandise and groceries are now commingled as some general merchandise stores now sell groceries. Work is ongoing to develop a reliable disaggregation routine for retail sales at the county level. County-level data through 2000 are reliable and the aggregate data series continue to be reliable. (2/03) Annual summaries of CBER retail trade data for the state, counties, and MSAs, and data from the Census of Retail Trade, conducted every five years by the Census Bureau, are available below.
